Liverpool will clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park in Week 17 of the Premier League match, Tuesday (27/12/2022). The Reds are determined to win on boxing day, while maintaining hegemony over The Villa.
Liverpool recently played their first match after the 2022 World Cup, namely against Manchester City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup this season. As a result, Jurgen Klopp's troops lost 2-3, and failed to defend the title.
In his last two matches in the Premier League, before the World Cup break, Liverpool always won. The Reds successively beat Tottenham 2-1 and Southampton 3-1.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa has played three matches with the manager, Unai Emery. The result is two wins and one loss.
Aston Villa won 3-1 over Manchester United, but then lost 2-4 to the same team in the third round of the Carabao Cup. Finally, they beat hosts Brighton 2-1 through a pair of Danny Ings goals.
Facing Liverpool later, Aston Villa may not be able to be strengthened by Emiliano Martinez, their main goalkeeper who just won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
In other words, The Villa's strength will not be complete. Liverpool won their last four meetings with Aston Villa. So, can the Reds continue their hegemony over Aston Villa?.
